The objective of the assignment
During the last decades, as a result of the significant increase in water use in the RA, it has had a significant negative impact on the quality of water resources. In the Republic, the amount of use from rivers, lakes and underground aquifers, which are intensively polluted by drinking and domestic, industrial and agricultural activities, is constantly increasing.
USAID/ Armenia Improved Water Management program will provide support to the RA Government in the process of capacity building for river basin management planning in Armenia.
Within the framework of the project, works will be carried out in the direction of updating the management plan of the selected Southern Basin Area.
Within the framework of this technical task, the Hydrochemist/Water Quality Specialist will carry out the development, evaluation and work of the quality characteristics of the relevant water resources of the Southern Basin Management Area, according to the tasks presented below.
ОБЯЗАННОСТИ
:

1. Collection and analysis of water quality characteristics of the river basins of the Southern WBMA;
2. Evaluation of the quality of return water from communal, agricultural, industrial, fish farming, etc. assessment of qualitative pressures and impacts on water resources;
3. Identification, analysis and assessment of point and diffuse sources of pollution on water resources;
4. As a result of the assessment of qualitative pressures and effects on water resources, carry out the adjustment of separated water bodies of the water basin management area;
5. Monitoring of water resources and assessment of the status of water bodies in the area of water basin management:
- Assessment of the existing water quality monitoring network,
- Assessment of the status of surface and groundwater bodies.
6. Risk assessment and determination of environmental goals:
- Surface and groundwater risk assessment;
- Give environmental goals for surface and groundwater bodies based on water quality indicators;
7. Planning the program of events:
- Compile basic and additional measures as a result of the assessment of qualitative pressures and impacts on water resources, point and diffuse sources of pollution;
8. Prepare interim and final reports in Armenian and English languages;
9. Prepare PowerPoint presentations to the reports in Armenian and English languages.
Deliverables:
First report (first phase assignment: parts 1, 2 and 3) (November 15, 2023-December 20, 2023). The second report (task of the second stage: parts 4 and 5 (December 21, 2023-February 8, 2024). The third report (task of the third stage: parts 6 and 7) (February 11, 2023-March 15, 2024).
Results-reports of work are presented in the following format:
a) Reports in MS Word text files;
b) Data and graphs in MS Excel spreadsheet files;
c) Maps, and drawings in KML, jpg or tiff type files.
ТРЕБУЕМАЯ КВАЛИФИКАЦИЯ
: 
- Master’s Degree in chemistry or environmental science with a focus on the water sector or extensive (minimum 5 years);
- Expert level experience in water quality study and analysis, and water resources management;
- Strong reporting skills;
- Reporting experience;
- Experience in working with international organizations in the water sector is an advantage;
- Fluency in English and Armenian languages.

О КОМПАНИИ
: 
USAID launched the Armenia Improved Water Management Program to refine Armenia’s
approach to water management and protection of freshwater resources. The Program is
funded by USAID and implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP as the prime contractor and
sub-contracted by Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development (UFSD), University of
Colorado Boulder, and Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus).
The Program has the following objectives: application of advanced technologies and tools,
improved water governance, promote and scale best practices and innovative approaches,
regional cooperation with neighboring countries, improved access to water.
